December 2022

Final Project

Criteria: Choose a category of garment, draft a pattern to fit either a dress form or yourself; create a toile; creating it in final fabric optional. I chose to create a blazer, inspired by Favorite Daughter's The Phoebe Blazer. It is a double breasted blazer with front pockets, and two piece tailored sleeves. This draft was challenging because I basically combined pattern draft directions for both a men's and women's blazer. I wanted the blazer to be oversized, but fit my form well. It certainly took a few tries to get the formulation correct. The most challenging part was getting the sleeves to fit into the armholes correctly, while achieving the desired silhouette. I had trouble effectively measuring and drafting the sleeve cap, while keeping seem lines aligned with the side seams of the blazer, because the men's and women's cap formulations were slightly different. Eventually, I achieved a good fit, and now have a timeless wool blazer in my wardrobe.
