London College of Fashion Draping Course & Final Project

While at LCF, I learned basic and advanced draping techniques, practicing these techniques in an immersive studio course, and used these skills to sketch a cohesive final collection, and create a toile of one design.

The premise of these sketches was to create 24 cohesive looks created for a muse. After taking a little trip to Florence, the Uffizi Gallery inspired me to create my looks based on Sandro Boticelli's Birth of Venus.  And my muse was going to be Audrey Hepburn, I already knew that.  My grandmother is a disciple of Audrey's, and I owe being able to go to London, and more, to my grandma. The looks take inspiration from the nature of the painting: the freedom of the waves, the fragility of the roses, the rigidity of the shell Venus is born upon. I used these elements in a timeless, elegant, New Look, way. I also brought in modern elements, silhouettes, and hemlines unaccustomed to the era Audrey took the world by storm.

After sketches were finalized, I was to choose one to drape on the stand and create a physical pattern and toile. I chose the third sketch in the first row. Due to time constraints, I added bow straps rather than boning channels, and circular frills rather than individual petals, however I am pleased with the result.

The sketches have been digitally uploaded and rendered to one page in Adobe Illustrator. All work and intellectual property is my own.
